South African Footwear & Leather Export Council

About us

The South African Footwear and Leather Export Council was officially recognized and registered by the Department of Trade & Industry as a Section 21 Company (not for gain) in March 2002. Our offices are situated in Westville, Durban. At the head of SAFLEC is the Executive Manager, Nerisha Jairaj, who is assisted by Louise Pelser the Finance and Administration manager together with Prenisha Dukhipersad who is the Personal Assistant.

This year extensive effort was made to ensure a wider demographic representation which includes people from previously disadvantaged backgrounds as well as from the SME sector. We are also fortunate to have ensured women’s empowerment through the employment of an Executive Director, Nerisha Jairaj who now heads SAFLEC under the guidance of our board of directors.

It has been a busy year for SAFLEC! From Exhibitions, to meetings with members of government, as well as finalising the process of making SAFLEC an independent business unit. We indeed foresee an even further increase in activities in the coming year.
Born in 1963, Sanjay found Caprini Footwear in 1992. Caprini Footwear (Pty) Ltd is part of the Palm Group of companies. Although the majority of products are purchased locally, the company is fast increasing export quantities.

Vice Chairman Born in 1958, Johan joined Bolton Footwear as Training Manager in 1989. Currently Johan is an Executive Director of the Bolton Group with specific responsibility for Group Operational matters which include Production, Sales and Product Development.

Andre Compion

Paul Moeller Born in 1958, André is the current CEO of the PMC Group of Companies. PMC Group was established in South Africa in 1963. Andre began his journey within the Group as MD of PMC Sewing Systems in 1989 and today he holds the position of MD and CEO of the PMC Group.

Andrew Fenwick

Managing Director of Saddler Belts Born in 1972, Andrew is the Managing Director of Saddler Belts. Andrew initially studied Mechanical Engineering after which he completed an Advanced Business Programme part-time. Andrew joined Saddler Belts & Leathercraft (Pty) Ltd (a company found by his father in 1990) in 2001 as delivery driver and worked himself up until he was eventually appointed General Manager and then Managing Director about 5 years ago.

Rolland Eboru

Managing Executive at Fred Footwear Born in 1979, Rolland is the Managing Executive at Fred Footwear, a footwear manufacturer and apparel retailer situated in the Eastern Cape. Prior to this Rolland was Head of Products at ICICI International Banking Group – India’s largest private sector Bank. He was also a product specialist at STANLIB Asset Management.

Sales and Marketing Manager at Nikkita Born in 1976, Janine is currently the Sales and Marketing Manager at Nikkita Footwear. Janine joined Nikkita Footwear as an accountant in 2007. She thereafter worked her way to become the Administration Manager before being offered the position as Sales and Marketing Manager. Janine is very involved with exports and work very closely with the major retailers.
Ahmed Shaikh

FootCoverings Born in 1979, Ahmed is the owner of FootCoverings. Ahmed has been in the footwear industry for over 18 years. Last year he took the bold step of leaving the comfort of the family business and ventured out on his own. Foot Coverings was established. Ahmed is currently working with 3 different factories that are manufacturing his own range of branded footwear which he markets locally, as well as into Africa. He also heads up development and marketing at Spectrum Footwear.
